Sailor Moon Costume -Back Story

sailormoon costumeSailor Moon is a popular animated television series in the United States that originated in Japan. The main character, Sailor Moon, is a girl who attends junior high and wears a sailor suit while fighting bad guys. She transforms into this character when evil appears, and has friends who transform into lesser heroines, who are named for the planets.

Sailor Moon and her friends have magical powers that they are able to use to fight evil. As Sailor Moon learns and gains strength, she receives additional powers and her costume is upgraded. In episode 111, she turns into Super Sailor Moon and later, in episode 168, she is transformed again into Eternal Sailor Moon. In this form, she has wings protruding from her back.

Sailor moon has long blond hair that is styled into two ponytails that fall below her knees. She has bangs and at the top of each ponytail her hair wrapped around a round red and white barrette. Her costume changes as she becomes more powerful, but the basic sailor suit consists of a skin-tight body suit with short sleeves that is worn with a short blue skirt and a matching square sailor-style collar that drapes over the back of the outfit. The sailor suit is adorned with a large red bow in the back and a smaller one on her chest.

Along with the sailor suit, Sailor Moon wears white gloves that reach to her elbows. There are red cuffs at the top of each glove. She also wears a pair of red knee-high boots that are trimmed in white at the top and come to a point in front.

The main difference between the regular Sailor Moon costume and the Super Sailor Moon costume is the color of the skirt. Instead of solid blue, the skirt is white with a blue stripe on the bottom edge and a yellow stripe above that. Eternal Sailor Moon is much fancier, with wings on her back and a three-tier skirt that has a bottom layer of blue, middle tier in red and a yellow top layer. She wears white boots and has pink bubble sleeves.

Sailor Moon’s personality is more than a little annoying. She is basically a cry-baby who is careless and more than a little ditzy. She seems to act much younger than the junior high student she is portrayed as. However, for some reason she is still a very popular character with many fans, not only in Japan and the United States, but around the world. Check out all the Sailor Moon Costumes here
